What Firearm Laws does Alaska have?
In Alaska, there are no state laws requiring a permit or license to purchase or own a firearm. Individuals who are at least 18 years old can legally purchase rifles and shotguns, while handguns can be purchased by individuals who are at least 21 years old. However, federal restrictions still apply, such as passing a background check through a licensed dealer for all firearm purchases from a licensed dealer.
Firearms Possession
Alaska allows individuals who are not prohibited by state or federal law to possess firearms. There are no registration requirements for firearms. However, certain restrictions may apply to certain locations, such as federal buildings, schools, and private properties where firearms are prohibited.
Concealed Carry Legal in Alaska?
Alaska is a Constitutional carry state. This means that any individual who is at least 21 years old, and not otherwise prohibited by law, can carry a concealed handgun without a permit. However, individuals can still choose to obtain a concealed carry permit, known as a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP), for the purpose of reciprocity with other states that recognize Alaska permits. An Alaska CHP is also required for individuals between 18 and 21 years old who wish to carry a concealed handgun.
